Leave a PV ground-fault indicator alone and call a qualified person. The light means current has found a path to ground, or to the equipment grounding path, that the design did not assign to normal operation. Pressing reset until the light stays dark does not remove that path. It hides the symptom while the path remains. If the fault returns, you have learned that the cause is still there. Stop.
What the screen is claiming
Makers do not share one phrase. Ground fault, isolation fault, insulation fault, and ISO all show up on screens. Write the exact words and the code. Grounded arrays and ungrounded arrays can detect leakage differently. The inverter manual is the document that says what this unit measured. Your job with the words is to preserve them. How grounding, bonding, and surge protection are supposed to be arranged, when the system is healthy, is in grounding, bonding, and surge protection. A fault means a conductor is using a path that arrangement did not give to everyday current.
The alarm sits among the inverter's protection functions. The list of those functions, and what each one is for, is in protection functions of a solar inverter. Arc-fault protection is a different alarm. It watches for arcing. A ground fault can exist without an arc, and an arc can exist along a broken conductor without a solid path to ground. Clearing one screen does not clear the other. What arc-fault protection does is the separate page.
Write three things, then leave it shut down
Photograph the screen. Note the time, the weather, and whether the array was wet. Then leave the system in the stopped state the inverter has chosen. Do not cycle the breaker through the afternoon hoping the next try sticks. Do not open module connectors. Modules in daylight are a source on the array side of any open connector. Do not walk a wet roof for a casual look. Insulation testing, including any instrument a technician might bring, belongs to the person qualified to use it. This page gives no test voltage and no procedure.
When someone qualified needs to isolate the inverter, they use the AC and DC disconnects the design already provided. What those handles separate is in AC and DC disconnects for solar. An owner who can reach a labeled handle to shut the system down, the way the posted instructions say, is doing a shutdown. Hunting for the fault with the cover off is a different job.
A reset is not the repair
A reset can clear a latch in the inverter's memory. The path in the wiring, a pinched conductor, a failed connector, or water in a junction box will still be there after the memory is empty. Resetting a solar inverter is for latches whose cause has actually gone. A ground fault that reappears is a standing defect. Further resets count how often the button was pressed.
Water and a ground fault together are a reason to keep people and pets away from the array and the inverter until a qualified person has been. Tell that person about the rain, the code, and any recent work on the roof. The history is part of finding the path. A system that comes back by evening has not been repaired. It has dried enough to sneak under the threshold, and the next wet day is the test you should not run on purpose.
