Photograph every charge voltage and the grid-code screen before anyone installs firmware or chooses reset to default. Those screens are how the inverter treats the battery and how it treats the utility. A generic profile can replace both. The photograph is the way back, and it has to exist before the button is pressed.

Charge voltages that belong to this battery

The charge voltage is what the inverter applies while it fills the battery. A number above the sheet can damage that battery. Lithium packs and lead-acid banks are damaged in the ways their own sheets describe, which are not the same story, so this page will not invent a shared failure mode. The match is the decision. Bulk, absorption, float, and any equalization a flooded battery allows are named in depth of discharge and charge stages. Copy this battery's numbers onto the note next to the photo so you can see whether the screen still matches after the update.

The battery-type choice on the menu is part of the same photograph. A profile named for a different chemistry brings that chemistry's voltages with it. Current limits belong in the frame. A limit far above the sheet asks the pack for current the sheet did not allow. Temperature compensation, if the screen has a switch for it, is on or off for a reason written on the sheet. Many lead-acid instructions want a temperature adjustment. Many lithium sheets want that adjustment left off because the pack's own management handles temperature. Follow this sheet. Living with the result is solar battery maintenance. If the pack only charges correctly when the data cable is speaking, the protocol page is battery and inverter communication. A firmware pass can drop that link as easily as it can drop a voltage.

The grid code is an interconnection setting

The grid code, or the utility profile, sets the voltage and frequency window the inverter will accept, and on many units it also sets ramp behavior. Those limits are part of how the inverter behaves when the grid is off-normal. What those protection functions are for is in protection functions of a solar inverter. Widening a limit to stop a trip can undo a profile the interconnection expected. Photograph the profile's name, not a vague memory that a grid code was enabled.

If the update changed the profile, restore it from the photo or have the installer restore it. If you did not set it, call the person who did. An export limit is another number a default can wipe. What that limit does to surplus power is in what an export limit does. Write the number down even if you intend to keep it.

Firmware, and the button that says default

Some updates keep settings. Some replace them. Treat this unit as one that might replace them. Before the file is sent, capture battery type, every charge voltage, the current limit, the grid profile, the export limit, and any on-screen note about sensor direction. After the update, compare the screen with the photos before the battery is allowed to charge overnight.

Reset to default is the explicit version of the same risk. It is a recovery tool when a qualified person has the sheet in hand and means to type the numbers back. It is a poor first response to a fault code. Resetting a solar inverter is about latches. Clearing the unit to factory battery voltages and walking away is how the following week stresses the pack. Inverter maintenance assumes the settings you saved are still the settings in the machine.
