A factory buying its first battery and a utility buying its fiftieth are not shopping in the same aisle. Commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage is sold by the cabinet, typically 200 kWh to 1 MWh, often with the inverter built in, and it is usually bought through distributors and EPCs rather than formal tenders. That changes which brands matter.

Short answer: the global C&I energy storage brands most worth shortlisting in 2026 are Huawei, Sungrow, BYD, Tesla, Canadian Solar e-STORAGE, Rolls-Royce mtu, Pylontech, AlphaESS, Sigenergy and LG Energy Solution. Six of the ten are Chinese brands, which reflects the market: Wood Mackenzie reported that Chinese integrators held 76% of global BESS market share in 2025. For buyers who need non-Chinese hardware, mtu (Germany), e-STORAGE (Canada-headquartered), Tesla (US) and LG (Korea) are the realistic options.

Last updated: October 2026. Model specifications are taken from manufacturer datasheets, mostly via the Coloprice catalog of 94 C&I cabinet models, and from maker product pages. We list the cabinet each brand is currently shipping rather than older models.

The ten brands

1. Huawei Digital Power

Huawei’s LUNA2000 range is the cabinet many installers meet first, because they already sell Huawei inverters. The current LUNA2000-241-2S1 stores 241 kWh at 108 kW using 314 Ah LFP cells and hybrid cooling. If you are buying refurbished or older stock of the earlier LUNA2000-215-2S10, note Huawei’s own caveat: units made in or before December 2024 lack on-grid/off-grid switching, so they cannot provide backup without additional equipment.

2. Sungrow

Sungrow ranked first in Wood Mackenzie’s 2026 global integrator ranking, and its C&I line benefits from the same in-house power conversion. The PowerStack 255CS (ST255CS-2H) delivers 125 kW and 257 kWh per cabinet using 314 Ah cells, carries UL 9540A test results, and allows up to 25 cabinets in parallel. That parallel limit is what makes it a good fit for factories that expect to add capacity in phases.

3. BYD Energy Storage

BYD led global storage installations in 2025 with 13% share according to Benchmark, and its C&I range covers every size band: Chess Plus (233 kWh, 125 kW) for small sites, MC Cube (536 kWh, 250.5 kW in the published configuration; the MC-B536 is UL 9540 listed) for mid-size, and MC-I (932 kWh) for larger plants. BYD makes its own cells, so cell substitution risk is low.

4. Tesla

Tesla does not sell a small commercial cabinet. It belongs here because large commercial and industrial sites, such as manufacturing plants, logistics hubs and data centres, increasingly buy Megapack directly. Megapack 3 holds 5 MWh at 2.5 MW and entered production in Brookshire, Texas on 6 August 2026. Tesla quotes 92.5% round-trip efficiency and a 20-year warranty. For sites under about 2 MWh it is oversized. Above that, it is often the bankable default.

5. Canadian Solar e-STORAGE

e-STORAGE, the storage business of Canadian Solar, ranked ninth in Wood Mackenzie’s integrator ranking. Its KuBank 3.0 cabinet comes in a 940 kWh, 450 kW UL version for North America and an 836 kWh IEC version for other markets, both on 314 Ah cells. The smaller KuBank 2.0 (277 kWh, 125 kW) also has a UL version. Separate UL and IEC SKUs are a good sign: they show the certification work has actually been done for each market.

6. Rolls-Royce mtu

mtu’s EnergyPack QS is the outlier on this list: a German-engineered skid of up to 400 kVA and 625 kWh, using NMC chemistry rather than LFP, with a grid-forming inverter. Its natural customers are sites that already run mtu gensets and want storage to share the load, smooth starts or run a microgrid. Expect a higher price per kilowatt-hour than Chinese LFP cabinets, in exchange for genset integration and Rolls-Royce service.

7. Pylontech

Pylontech is a familiar name in residential batteries and has moved up into C&I with its OPTIM US range. The L520-OMNI stores 522 kWh at 250 kW, the L260-OMNI scales to 1.56 MWh, and the A100-HY is an air-cooled hybrid cabinet. The range was shown at Intersolar 2025 and is aimed squarely at the US market, so ask for the UL documentation that goes with each model.

8. AlphaESS

AlphaESS covers the gap between residential and utility with the STORION-LC-TB125 (261 kWh) and TB150 (313 kWh, 150 kW) liquid-cooled cabinets, and the Aster TB250/TB500, a 20-foot container of about 1.41 MWh. It has a strong installer network in Europe and Australia, which matters more for C&I than in utility work because service usually comes from the local installer.

9. Sigenergy

Sigenergy built its reputation on modular residential storage and brought the same idea to commercial sites with SigenStack: 253 kWh and 126.5 kW in a modular block using 314 Ah cells. The appeal is stackable growth without a forklift-sized cabinet, which suits sites with limited space.

10. LG Energy Solution

LG’s R1000 and R1500 rack cabinets (about 253 kWh and 358 kWh) are older designs, and LG now focuses on utility projects and on US cell production. It stays on this list for one reason: buyers who need non-Chinese cell content have very few C&I options. Ask LG or its integrators what is currently available before designing around it.

All-in-one cabinet or DC block?

An all-in-one cabinet puts batteries, inverter (PCS), cooling and fire suppression in one enclosure. It is faster to install and gives you one warranty. A DC block contains only batteries and needs a separate PCS. It costs less per kilowatt-hour at scale and lets you choose the inverter, but someone has to own the integration. For most sites under 1 MWh, the all-in-one route saves more in engineering time than it costs in hardware.

Either way, the DC side needs protection between battery racks and PCS. ShineTong supplies storage accessories, DC circuit breakers and DC surge protection to integrators and EPCs. Frequently asked questions

What size is a typical commercial battery storage system?

Most C&I cabinets sold in 2026 hold between about 215 and 520 kWh, with 100 to 250 kW of power. Sites combine several cabinets in parallel for larger needs.

Which commercial battery brands are not Chinese?

Tesla (US), Rolls-Royce mtu (Germany), LG Energy Solution (South Korea) and Canadian Solar e-STORAGE (Canada-headquartered, with manufacturing in several countries) are the main options. Check where the cells are made, not just where the brand is based.

Is UL 9540A required for commercial battery storage?

In the US and Canada, fire codes such as NFPA 855 typically require UL 9540 listing and UL 9540A test data for installation approval. Other markets use IEC 62619 and local rules. Ask for the reports that match the exact model you are buying.

LFP or NMC for commercial storage?

LFP dominates C&I because of lower cost and better thermal stability. NMC, as in mtu’s EnergyPack QS, offers higher energy density and is chosen mainly where space or specific integration needs matter more than price.

How long do commercial storage systems last?

Most LFP C&I cabinets are warranted for 10 to 15 years or a fixed number of cycles, whichever comes first. Tesla quotes a 20-year warranty on Megapack 3. Compare warranted end-of-life capacity, not just years.
