A battery datasheet for solar storage is a set of limits, not a slogan about years. The lines that decide whether it can work with an inverter are the voltage window, the continuous current, the energy, the allowed depth, and the temperatures where charging is permitted. A nominal voltage such as “48 volt class” is a family name. The full charge voltage and the empty cutoff are the numbers that have to sit inside the inverter’s DC range.

Read these lines in this order

LineDecision it supports
Nominal voltage and the full operating windowWhether this pack is even the voltage class of the inverter
Rated energy, and usable energy if printed separatelyHours of backup only after you apply the depth the sheet allows
Continuous discharge and charge current, or powerWhether the inverter’s demand, and the array’s charge, stay inside the pack
Cycle life at a stated depth and temperatureA warranty or a test at that depth, not a promise at a deeper one
Charge cutoff temperatureWhether a cold morning is allowed to charge at all
CommunicationWhether the inverter speaks this battery’s protocol

Chemistry decides which of those lines even exist. A flooded lead-acid sheet may print bulk, absorption, float, and an equalization that a lithium iron phosphate sheet forbids. The upkeep stays with solar battery maintenance. Why that lithium chemistry shows up so often, without borrowing its cycle table, is in why LFP batteries are used for solar storage.

Energy is not the same sentence as power

Kilowatt-hours say how much the pack can store. Kilowatts say how fast it can be emptied or filled. A large energy number with a small continuous power will run a refrigerator for a long time and will refuse a well pump. A high power number on a small pack will start the pump and then be empty. Depth of discharge is the fraction you are allowed to use, and it is on this sheet, not in a proverb. The definition, and the lead-acid charge stages that do not transfer to every lithium pack, are in depth of discharge and charge stages.

Amp-hours are not kilowatt-hours until you multiply by voltage, and that voltage is not constant from full to empty. If the sheet already prints kilowatt-hours, use that line. If you convert, say which voltage you used. A 100 amp-hour label at a nominal 48 volts is a different energy from the same amp-hours at 12 volts. C-rate, which turns amp-hours into a current, is in what C-rate means.

What a warranty cycle count is

A cycle table in a warranty is a contract at the depth, the temperature, and the throughput the warranty names. A lab result on a bare cell is not that contract. Calendar life, the clock that runs even when you do not cycle, is a second limit. Both clocks are explained in cycle life and calendar life. If the sheet is silent on one of them, leave it silent. Do not fill the gap with a number from a different chemistry.
